Handfuls of Purpose Devotions: The Bedroom
Ann Reagan 2007
Today, is October 1.
All good homemakers need to turn their mattresses from top to bottom today. In other words, simply turn your mattress around (not over..not yet anyway) turn the end of the mattress that is at the head of the bed so that it is now at the foot of the bed. Now...see how simple and easy that was? Now get your little canister vacuum out and give the mattress a real good vacuuming and then spray it with Lysol spray. Let it air for a couple of hours and then put your nice freshly washed and dried sheets, blankets and spread on the bed. You'll be able to breathe much easier now...you have just helped to get rid of some of the little tiny allergens in your bed.
Mattresses need to turned every 3 months in order to keep them from wearing unevenly or getting sags or lumps. You can remember what direction to turn the mattress by taking a Sharpie permanent marker and putting the initials for the 3 months on each end of the mattress on the top of each side. I hope that makes sense. Anyway, when you are done your mattress should have the following on it:
J-F-M head / top side - turn mattress from head to foot
A-M-J foot / top side- turn mattress over after this
J-A-S head/bottom side - turn mattress from head to foot
O-N-D foot/bottom side - turn mattress over after this
If you have a box springs on your bed. You will want to turn it about two times each year and vacuum it really good and spray it with Lysol about 4 times each year. January and June turn the box springs. Head to foot. You will vacuum it those two times and then addition in March and August you will want to vacuum it again and spray it with Lysol. Everything stays nice and fresh and clean that way.
Weekly you will want to wash your sheets, pillow cases and mattress pads in hot water. This helps to kill the tiny dust mites that just love
crawling around in bed linens and in mattresses. It also keeps your bed nice and fresh and makes for getting a better nights sleep.
The woman described in Proverbs 31 works "willingly" with her hands. She looks after her household well and she is not a lazy woman.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest."
Colossians 3:17 "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."
Colossians 3:23 "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;"
Proverbs 31:13 "She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands."
Proverbs 31:27 "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness."
Ladies, (and husbands too) the bedroom is a very important room in the household. Not only does it need to be kept clean by washing and vacuuming but the activities that go on that room need to be kept clean and pure and unsoiled by the worldly trash that is running rampant on the internet and television and everywhere else today. As Christians, we have no business bringing pornographic materials into our minds or our bedrooms as so called, "enhancement" ventures to "help" our marriages.
There has not been one marriage EVER that that kind of thing has ever helped. But it sure has destroyed a lot of lives. If your marriage is feeling a little dull and unexciting then it is probably because one or both spouses have forgotten time alone with the Lord and with each other. A good healthy marriage, needs time, tender touches, turning the hearts toward God. Don't forget...marriage was God's idea in the first place...so when there are problems it didn't start with God...but with folks not seeking God more.
Hebrews 13:4 "Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge."
I hope your bedroom is nice and clean and pure. So that your home will always be pleasing to the Lord.
