Question. How does the ministry of the Gospel help you in this cursed state?

Answer. By humbling me yet more and more, and then raising me out of this dreadful state.

THE SCRIPTURE CONVICTS!

Jesus scribed with his finger some writing on the ground while these Pharisees were trying to entrap him concerning the woman taken in adultery.

No doubt what he wrote in the dirt was Exodus 20:14. “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Their consciences were smitten. No doubt one of these Pharisees standing there that day was one of the guilty participants with woman.

The Scripture convicts the human heart, and if the Scripture is received, it will draw the sinner to Jesus Christ and to true repentance. “And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. [John 8:9]
